Hi Tim,

Please see the response from Kelly below:

Pablo,
Below is a response to Tim's questions.
  1. How frequently does MSU intend to access this data? Is it weekly or monthly or intermittent.    I have no idea.  Periodically they sample all ingredients and would like to have an exact list of what went into the mixer wagon in which to show the "exact ration fed"
  2. Will the operation be automated on their end (i.e., a B2B integration), or will they continue to gather data manually while requiring a specific dataset? Again, I do not know.  I mentioned PowerBI and they seemed to be familiar with it.  My guess is short term they will manually pull the data, but long term they will automate.  They are currently shopping for a data professional to handle the myriad sources of data they work with.  I would expect, long term, they will work towards pulling quite a bit of data from our system and store locally just for some redundancy
  3. Could you clarify the exact data points required? For example, Load ID, Date of Loading, Ingredient Name, Ingredient ID, DM%, etc.  Currently they are after the data on the loads report with the addition of %DM for each ingredient.  If you move forward on adding an offload, let me know and I will get more details from them.
  4. A more detailed specification is necessary to ensure we provide the appropriate solution.  I am unclear what the issue is here.  A couple of years ago you set up Dairy Margin Tracker with access to HUB.  We now pull data automatically every night, or if needed, I can log into HUB and grab an XML with whatever other data I'm looking for.  All I want to do is give MSU this option.  I had no idea it would entail anything more than going through the permissions process for them.

Would it be sufficient if Richard were to generate a report within the Feedlync portal containing the required data, which could then be exported as a CSV file? I need to understand the technical level of interaction required—whether the process will be system-based or manual. Yes, the current csv offload in the loads report is useless.  If that could have the load detail along with %DM of the ingredient that would probably be sufficient for their current needs.  At this point they are only doing a manual process.

Additionally, Kelly mentioned a need for restricted access, as he does not wish the MSU analysts to have full functionality within the Feedlync portal, such as the ability to edit diets. However, if access is granted via the Feedlync API, full access would be provided by default. Could you clarify the level of access required and specify which Feedlync functionalities should be accessible?  From my conversations with MSU, the researchers needed the loads data for some given days, but our exports did not provide any detail, the only workaround we have are screen shots.  The farm management is hesitant to give complete access to all the researchers, not from a trust issue, but more from a "people poking around and accidentally changing something" issue.  In the old cow-connect we could limit portal access but this is not currently available.  My thought was that HUB would be a simple way to address both issues.  I did not realize I could change a ration from HUB.
My intent with all of this was an easy work-around, that would require no report changes or programming, save access to HUB.  Sounds like that was not a correct assumption.
The most user-friendly solution is to add a csv export of the loads report in detail that includes %DM of the ingredients, followed by a "read only/export" permission for the portal.
On a side note- these emails take a lot of time- if you have a question do not hesitate to give me a call / web meeting request.  What takes half an hour to type out in an email can be accomplished in 10 mins in a web meeting, with fewer mis-understandings.

Thanks,
